Not related to fitness but to general awesomeness

I took my 3 year old daughter, Doodle to see her first movie yesterday.  As soon as the film ended she began crying.  I totally understood why.  Earlier that day she said to me, “Mommy, what is magic?”  When I saw her crying, I said, “Doodle, that feeling you got when you were watching the movie—that is what magic is.”

We saw the Muppets.  If you know me, you’ll know that my all-time dream as a little girl was to be the guest host on the Muppets (yes, I’m old—fetch me my dinosaur and wooden teeth!)  What a blessing it was to see my daughter’s eyes light up when they sang the Rainbow Connection—the only lullaby I sing to my children.  I knew EXACTLY what Doodle was feeling  the moment she began crying—truth be told, I was holding back my own tears.

Growing up is hard, confusing and sometimes downright sucks.  And this is why I love the Muppets—because to them, being an adult doesn’t mean giving up your dreams—it means giving IN to them.  It means honoring that magic, that tap-dancing, musical-singing crazy-haired person inside of each of us—that the grown-up thing to do is to look that person in the eye and say, yep, this is the real me.  May Doodle always honor the magic Muppet inside of her—I’ve spent a lifetime denying my own, but I think it’s time to be a grown-up and embrace my inner 3-year old.

Sooner or later, you have to start believing in yourself.  that’s what growing up is…it’s becoming who you want to be. —Jason Segel
